To better support the needs of families with seriously ill children, the two Ronald McDonald House organizations serving our region over the past four decades have united as Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston. Exploration of this strategic alliance began in May 2022 with the formation of a joint task force of the two entities:

 Ronald McDonald House Houston

and

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston

The task force’s study concluded that a single, merged organization would serve more families more effectively throughout the Greater Houston region. The new organization leverages the combined talents, resources and community support to work more efficiently, serve more families, and identify where program expansion is needed.

With over 30 years of experience, Cristina Vetrano, the current CEO of Ronald McDonald House Houston, is well-equipped to guide the merged entities in this next chapter.

We hope you will join us as we expand our services to bring comfort and care to more families across the Greater Houston region.

FAQ’s About the Merger

Ronald McDonald House Houston and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston.

Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald House Charities (previously Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities) Entities emerged and developed along different but parallel paths. The first House opened in Philadelphia in 1974, while the Charities were established ten years later in memory of McDonald’s founder, Ray Kroc.

The first Houston House opened in 1981. The first Houston Charities chapter was established in 1990.

When the merger exploration began, Houston was one of only a handful of markets in the world where Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Chapters and Ronald McDonald Houses were still operating independently. RMHC, Inc., the global organization, encourages all unmerged markets to explore whether pooling resources into a unified chapter will better serve families.

The merger in Houston mirrors successful consolidations already undertaken by nearly all other RMHC chapters across the country. This merger follows a proven and effective plan, with uninterrupted, seamless service.

A joint task force of representatives from boards and staff of the two entities made the decision to form one organization after a 19-month study.

The study and discussions concluded that combining into one organization could increase efficiency and serve more families throughout the region. Upon review of the task force recommendations in late 2023, boards of the two entities voted to merge.

The single organization leverages the combined talent, resources, and community support of the original organizations to better address the needs of families with seriously ill children receiving medical treatment throughout Greater Houston.
