Debbie Gibson has a heart for helping others. When she was rotating off the board of another non-profit, a friend said, “You need something else to be involved in and you should consider Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston.” After joining RMHC’s Board, Debbie joined the Finance Committee and eventually became Board President.
Over the years, she has seen the House change and grow. She recalls, “Expanding our reach to the hospitals was huge for us. Texas Children’s was our primary partner in the beginning, and I was so pleased to see us help more families by establishing services inside M.D. Anderson and Children’s Memorial Herman.” Debbie goes on to say, “There is nothing more important to me than helping the children and families we serve. We make a difference in their difficult journey by providing warm meals, quiet support, a place to rest in the middle of a whirlwind, and much more. It’s the heart of what we do, and we want to keep that heart beating long into the future.”
Debbie and her husband, Gary, were early Legacy of the Heart Society members. “My career in wealth management has given me an understanding of the importance of legacy gifts, not only to the charity, but also to how the donor wishes to be remembered.” She wants contributors to know that when they leave a gift to the House, they are not just giving money. They are giving a little piece of home to people who need it most, when they need it most. That’s not just a legacy. That’s love that lasts.
