Emily Crosswell has been a driving force behind Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston since its inception. Inspired by an early visit to a House in Denver, she returned to Houston committed to building a home for families facing medical crises. As one of the original founders, she played a pivotal role in establishing the first House in Texas, helping to raise funds and shape its mission from the ground up.
“In the beginning, we sat around the table brainstorming on how we were going to raise funds. There wasn’t a House in Texas, no one knew what it was. Getting the funding and this first House was like birthing a child, but we did it.”
From the very beginning, Emily wore many hats, “I have chaired every capital campaign for Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston and held almost every position except treasurer!” She has witnessed the evolution of the House, its partnerships with hospitals, and its innovative programming. What she values the most, however, isn’t the titles. “My involvement with the Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston is the greatest treasure anyone could give me.”
A proud member of the RMHC Greater Houston’s Legacy of the Heart Planned Giving Society, Emily ensures the mission lives on. “If I didn’t leave something to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston in my will, it would be like leaving out one of my children!” She adds, “For me, being a Legacy member is love in perpetuity. Those of us who are members of the Legacy of the Heart Planned Giving Society believe strongly enough in the mission to leave something to help secure its future. That in and of itself is a big testament of what the House means to us.”
