Jerry Borowick has been deeply involved with Ronald McDonald House for over 40 years across five different cities. In addition to volunteering, he has served on the Board of Directors, as Board President, and on the Finance Committee. With his background and career, Jerry has been able to view the mission of Ronald McDonald House Greater Houston with a focus on finance and longevity to set up its future success
“Even with all of the improvements in medicine, there seems to be more and more of a need for places like Ronald McDonald House Greater Houston,” Jerry says. “Lots of things have changed, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is there is still a need, and we have to make sure the House is set up for years to come.”
When Jerry and his wife Karen were planning their estate, they felt it was a “no-brainer” to become part of the Legacy of the Heart Society and leave funds to Ronald McDonald House Greater Houston. “After a lifetime of giving you just want to continue that thought process after you are gone,” says Jerry.
“You have to think about what your ultimate decisions are. You’ve got your family, your school, your religious organization and the charities that need your help. Ronald McDonald House Greater Houston is one of those places for us. For those of us who have given so much of our time to the House, how can we ask our friends and neighbors to put the House in their wills or trusts if we have not already planned for it ourselves?”
Jerry wears his Legacy of the Heart pin proudly and believes it helps start some good conversations when people ask about its meaning. To Jerry, planned giving and the Legacy of the Heart Society allows Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston to know that it can last for the next 20 years, or more.
