For Maggie Stacy, service and fellowship were instilled at a young age. “I used to go with my grandmother to deliver meals for people in need when I was younger,” Maggie remembers. “We would go into their house and my grandmother knew them all so well.”
It was this same sense of community that drew Maggie to Ronald McDonald House Houston as a young adult. She started off as a house volunteer and quickly fell in love with the mission. Later when she was a young mother, she became Board President and volunteering and giving to Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston became a family affair.
“I’ve been very impacted by the mission of Ronald McDonald House because I feel like childhood illness or injury is the great equalizer. Nothing brings a parent to their knees faster. No amount of influence, money, or anything else can save your child.” Maggie also believes that the intentional community-building that Ronald McDonald House does is transformative. “Everything about Holcombe House, the central dining area, the family rooms…it’s all meant to draw you out. RMHC focuses on everything so that parents can just focus on their child.”
When it came time to discuss estate planning as a family, Maggie says, “It was a no-brainer to be a part of the Legacy of the Heart Society. I am proud that if something were to happen to me tomorrow, Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston would still feel my love. “
Maggie goes on to say, “Most people do not realize legacy giving is an option. It is such an easy thing to do, and no amount is too small. I really care about Ronald McDonald House and if I am making such a commitment of my time, why not in my legacy giving too? With the Legacy of the Heart Society, I can leave something meaningful behind that will help institutionally and for the endowments.”
