Rebecca Fieler turned her teenage babysitting earnings into a legacy gift.
Rebecca always knew that Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston was going to be part of her estate planning but had yet to finalize her gift.
“I had to think about what legacy means. What is my legacy? Some of us do not have children. Sure, I plan to leave money to my nieces and nephews, but sometimes people focus so much on legacy being people that they don’t always think about legacy being your passions as well. What do I love doing in my life that I would like to support when I have passed on?”
Turing this commitment into action was easier than Rebecca anticipated. “I just went online and changed my Roth IRA beneficiary to Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston. It took less than five minutes.”
Rebecca expects her legacy giving commitments to grow over time as her career advances. “I’m not planning on dying for a while, and you can’t take it with you. As I grow in my life and my career, the House gets to grow with that,” Rebecca adds. “The House is a special place that supports families who are in the middle of a crisis. I like the idea of being part of the Legacy of the Heart Society, knowing that I can serve the House now and know I am part of supporting future dreams.”
Rebecca explains, “The IRA account I am leaving to Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston was started when I was 13 with my babysitting money. For the most part, it has just been sitting there growing over the last 25 years. I like the idea that money I earned from taking care of kids will continue to take care of other kids after I am gone. That is lovely. Sometimes there is greater meaning in things that you don’t even realize.”
