Located just ten minutes from the Texas Medical Center, Amschwand House is a 15-unit apartment property that will provide one and two-bedroom residences for larger families that require more space or have critical health needs that require isolation and social distancing.
At Amschwand House, families can stay together, heal together, and find moments of joy together. This isn’t a hotel. It’s a home away from home that allows families to stay together and remain close to critical medical care while they are navigating a child’s health crisis.
Amschwand House was originally opened by Missy Amschwand Bellinger, founder of A Shelter for Cancer Families, to fulfill her late husband Tom’s wish to provide housing for patients undergoing treatment.
In early 2025, A Shelter for Cancer Families partnered with RMHC Greater Houston to combine resources and continue this legacy of compassion under Ronald McDonald House management. The property was renamed Amschwand House in honor of Tom and his enduring wish to offer comfort and support to families facing a medical crisis.
